Did you enter our competition to grow the tallest sunflower this summer?

We teamed up with Vine House Farm Bird Foods to bring you a green-fingered challenge.

We wanted you to grow sunflower plants, either in your garden at home, at a friend or relative's house, on an allotment or at school, and see how tall it would grow. Lot's of you requested a pack of free seeds to get you started and we received some very impressive entries!

The tallest sunflower entered into our competition was an amazing 329cm tall! It was grown by Anna and Jack Beniston (aged 5 and 7) from Leicestershire. They planted their seeds next to a fence and were careful not to water them too much. They think the very good soil there and lots of sunlight helped their sunflowers to grow and grow.

Congratulations to Anna and Jack who have won an amazing bird feeding kit from Vine House Farm worth £190, including a feeding station, feeders and food.

Here are a few of the other entries and their stories. How well did you do?

304cm sunflower by Alisha Cullen from Essex.

Alisha watered this super sunflower regularly to help it grow, and even grew some lovely courgettes and marrows underneath it.

218cm sunflower by Emily Taylor (aged 11) from Devon.

Emily planted her seed in a little pot before transferring it to the ground when it was big enough. She used homemade compost and even put a tree guard over it to protect it from slugs!

207cm sunflower by Grange Primary School in Grimsby.

The children of Grange Primary School grew sunflowers in raised beds in their school garden. By the look of all those beautiful flowers, they must be a green-fingered bunch!

237cm sunflower by Heather Harvey (aged 7) from Fife.

Heather planted her sunflower next to the greenhouse where there was lots of compost dug in. She didn't water it because there was lots of rain in Scotland this year.

215cm sunflower by Rohit Prabhu.

Rohit says that his secret to success was to plant the sunflower seed really early and water it regularly.

309cm sunflower by Sofia Gillham (aged 3 1/2) from Essex.

Sofia watered her sunflower every night. She says she didn't use any special compost - just tender loving care!

231cm sunflower by Hester (aged 12), Florence (aged 10), Rowena (aged 8), Mabel (aged 6), Philip (aged 4) and Erica (aged nearly 2) Barker.

The Barker family each grew their own sunflowers and measured their best one. It might not have been the tallest but it had an incredible 20 flower heads!
