The Watch Diary
Rain and more rain
Unless you live in the far north of Scotland, then it proobably feels like it has been raining a lot, and for a long time!
Rain is great for juicy berries and across the UK elder trees are laden with bunches of small black berries . Why not check out which birds are guzzling these tasty treats in a garden, yard or park near you.
It is great time of year to take a fungus foray. Arm yourself with a simple ID guide, a notebook or digital camera and a dental mirror for looking at the underside of toadstools and you can soon learn to recognise or record some of the commoner species. For expert advice, ask your Wildlife Trust about guided events this autumn.
