NWT 50 years of Protecting Wildlife - May 2013

Our Wildlife Watchers celebrated 50 years of protecting wildlife in Nottinghamshire. It was a good excuse to have cakes too!

At a recent WW session, the children thought about different activities and ideas of things to do over the next 12 months and at our May meeting, we launched our Wildlife Watch List of 50 things to do before May 2014. Here are some examples of what we've included:

Build a den in the woods
Toast marshmallows on a campfire
Make a mini beast hotel
Do some bark rubbing
Listen to the noise of the river

Here's a photo of some of us with our list of 50 things to do!

Wild about Flowers - May 2013

We decided to plant wildflower seeds using balloons!

First trick was to get the seeds into the balloons and then we walked to our local nature reserve to prepare the site. The children used spades and rakes to create a clear surface and then popped the balloons by jumping on them! A fun way to sow the wildflower meadow!

Our nature trail home was an opportunity to look at all the wildflowers on the reserve at the moment - celandines, marsh marigolds, dandelions, daisies and lots of cowslips on our Notts Wildlife Trust Blue Butterfly Scheme Meadow.
