BirdFair 2015

This year the Wildlife Watch team swooped in to BirdFair! We wanted to share some of the highlights of a brilliant weekend with you!

What is BirdFair?

BirdFair is the British Birdwatching Fair. It's a chance for bird and wildlife lovers everywhere to come together, hear talks from professionals, share ideas and basically have a good time! It takes place at Rutland Water and this year the weather was just beautiful.

The Wildlife Trusts stand

The Wildlife Trusts stand was a big hit this year, with its woodland theme. In fact, we even won two awards - 1st Prize for Best Conservation Stand, and Best in Show! Doesn't it just look fantastic?

Wildife Watch were based in the tipi - how much fun! We had lots of craft activities throughout the day, including creating face masks, colouring sheets and quizzes. We also made clay hedgehog pencil holders, which was a very popular activity! Who wouldn't want to make their very own hedgehog?

Our stand was busy throughout the weekend, with our Wildlife Watch activities, bug walks with expert Brian Eversham and our very own nature table on display. We had lots of inspiring conservationists visiting our stand, including Simon King, who read a passage from his favourite book!

Alongside this, our stand hosted a reception celebrating our partnership with Vine House Farm. This is a conservation award-winning farm which, over the past 8 years, has raised an incredible £1 million for The Wildlife Trusts.

We wanted to celebrate this extraordinary achievement and so we were joined on our stand by lots of supporters to help us to say thank you.

Wildlife Watch on tour!

Here's some pictures of Emma and Leanne, the Wildlife Watch team, meeting some great people! Pictured are Emma Websdale, Editor of Wildlife Watch, Leanne Manchester, Communications Support Officer and Ellie Lewis, Administrator, with David Lindo, the Urban Birder, Mark Cawardine, celebrated zoologist and Patrick Barkham, a wonderful nature history author.

We also had the great pleasure of meeting Simon Barnes, journalist and author, and some of our incredible Wildlife Watchers, including Zack and Georgia. We can't wait to meet even more of you in the future!

The Gruffalo

For the first time, BirdFair ran a drama production on the Events Stage, hosted by The Wildlife Trusts! It was a brilliant performance of the Gruffalo, with Nick Baker as the snake, Mike Dilger as the mouse, Rob Lambert as the fox, Dominic Couzens as the owl and Bill Oddie as The Gruffalo! This was extremely well received and lots of children in the audience were drawn into the production as well. We were so pleased to be a part of it! A massive thank you as well to Nick, Mick, Rob, Dominic and Bill for being all-round terrific!
