Events for schools and families
Cumbria Wildlife Trust offers a wide range of activities for schools and families. Our ‘What’s On’ guide has details of all our events, and those displaying our ‘Sid the Seagull’ logo are especially family-orientated. We also run activities for families (pond dipping, mini-beast hunts, etc) at our annual garden bonanza held each June as well as taking part in special county and national events such as ‘Love your parks week’.
Education services
Our education service offers assemblies, workshops, classroom activities, teacher training and school grounds surveys and improvements. We offer themed workshops for primary schools for a half or a whole day and are provided by our network of wildlife tutors. School members of the Trust can also download activities each term and are given multiple copies of the Watch magazines.
Wildlife Watch groups
We have five Watch groups that welcome children of 5 years and above. They meet once a month and get involved in activities such as pond dipping, bat watching and willow weaving as well as learning about our local animals, insects, birds and plants. Other activities have included making nest boxes, planting trees and helping to record wildlife through taking part in OPAL surveys.
Our website Kid's Space
Our Website also offers lots of things to do on our Kids’ Space area. There is a monthly ‘Download and do’, a ‘Simple Survey’ section with things that are relevant to Cumbria’s wildlife and links to national websites, a ‘Blog’ written by a Watch group member and, for our youngest nature lovers, there are ‘Benjamin’s Adventure Stories’, where Benjamin the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel meets a variety of wildlife characters on his nature rambles. Don’t miss out on the chance to join an award scheme or enter our Christmas Card Competition!
