About: Clubmosses are very primitive plants. Found in rocky habitats, moorland, bogs and mountains. Grows up to 25cm tall.
How to identify: There are seven species of Clubmoss in Britain, which are very difficult to tell apart.
Where: Widespread in the uplands.
Fantastic fact: Clubmosses are members of an ancient group of plants that included the trees that dominated the world in the Carboniferous period, 320 million years ago, that turned into coal!
