About: A hardy little plant, the primrose can flower from as early as December in mild years all the way through to May. It favours woodland clearings, hedgebanks and grassland habitats, and sometimes even gardens.
How to identify: A low growing plant with rough textured, tongue-like leaves. Flowers are large and creamy with deeper yellow centres.
Where: Very common, grows all over the UK and Ireland.
Fantastic fact: The name primrose comes from the latin prima rosa, meaning first rose, describing its early flowering.
