More 2017 dates

Sunday 14 May: They call it dirt!

Dole Wood Nature Reserve 2.00 - 4.00pm

We will be taking a good look at soil: what is it, what is it made of, and what lives in it?

Meet by the roadside/entrance to the wood, along Obthorpe Lane, Thurlby.



Sunday 11 June: Butterflies and wildflowers


Stanton's Pit Nature Reserve 2.00 - 4.00pm

We did some practical work here last winter, so what difference has it made? Plenty of wildlife to see, and perhaps some orchids. Meet in the car park, off the Witham on the Hill to Little Bytham road.

Sunday 9 July: More butterflies and wildflowers

Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve 2.00 - 4.00pm

We will be going on a wander around the reserve, and seeing just what there is to see.

Meet up by the buildings, and be prepared for a bit of a trek - It is quite a large nature reserve!

Sunday 8 January:
Animal tracks and signs
Deeping Lakes
Nature Reserve
2.00 - 3.30pm

We will be going on a winter walk to see if we can find any animal tracks and making plaster casts if we do.
Meet in the main car park.

Sunday 12 February:
Practical conservation work
Deeping Lakes
Nature Reserve
2.00 - 3.30pm

We will be working in the woodland near to the lake edge, coppicing and pollarding small trees.
Meet in the main car park.

Sunday 12 March:
Small mammal survey
Deeping Lakes
Nature Reserve
2.00 - 3.30pm

Using special traps we will see if we can catch and take a close look at mice and voles before we release them. We will also see if we can find signs of other animals, like foxes, deer or otters!
DO NOT meet in the main car park. We will be over by the boathouse, so meet in Manor Roofing’s car park, just south of the level crossing.

Wildlife Watch is aimed at families and children between 8 and 16 years of age. Parents are always very welcome to stay and children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent.

We will be collecting leaves to see if we can match all the colours in ‘nature’s pallet’ and using found objects to create pictures.

We will be snooping about and trying to identify some of the trees growing on the reserve.

Robert’s Field Nature Reserve

We will be trying to count orchids, and having a look at some really rare butterflies.

Meet at the reserve entrance.

The reserve is on the Holywell to Pickworth Road. It is probably best to look it up on the Trust website - it is a bit tricky to find.

We will be finding out how and why some animals are mostly active during the hours of darkness.

We will be doing some more work in a different part of the reserve and having a bonfire. Gloves and tools provided.

Meet in the main car park this time. You will need to wrap up warmly.
