In the October half term, some of the Huntington Watchers joined the Caldy Valley Watchers for some large scale artwork. Can you hear the cackling?

Now started some seriously competitive worm charming!
The group split into three teams - Slimys, the Worm People and the Wormies. Each was given an equally sized square of ground, within which to charm worms to the surface. No digging was allowed, and water could not be added. The Watchers had to charm the worms to the surface using vibrations only, to mimic the sound of rain, or a predatory mole.
A range of techniques were used - sticking a garden fork into the ground and banging it, bouncing a ball, banging trowels on the ground, doing a stampy dance, singing into the ground (or was that screeching?) and using hollow pipes to help reverberate the sound into the soil.
The Wormies charmed the most worms, the Slimys caught the longest with most segments, and the Worm People ended up with the shortest, fattest worm. So everyone was a winner!!

We started today with a hectic game of Fox and Rabbit. Could the team move as one to protect the rabbit from the fox? Apparently not!! So a new game was invented which was rather hard to follow!

A few Watchers stayed on to plant spring bulbs and ferns in the woodland area, and some tall herbs in the summer meadow. The seeds we collected a few weeks ago had been dried in the potting shed, so were ready to package up in our handmade seed packets.
