Our 2013 dates!

The Bourne Wildlife Watch Group meets once a month, and this is the programme for the next few months:- Location of all reserves can be found on the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust website: www.lincstrust.org.uk

Practical conservation work:-
Wear stout footwear and old clothes, remember to wrap up warmly if it is cold. We provide the tools, and we have some leather gloves as well.

Sunday 10 February 2.00 - 3.30pm

Practical conservation task - Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve

We will be making bird or bat boxes. Meet by the main buildings (see 'Find Willow Tree Fen' for location).



Sunday 10 March 2.00 - 3.30pm

Practical conservation task - Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve

We will be helping out with some winter work on the reserve. Wear some old clothes, and wrap up nice and warmly. Gloves and tools provided. Meet in the main car park.



Sunday 14 April 2.00 – 4.00pm

Spring wildflower survey – Dole Wood Nature Reserve

We will be trying to count the bluebells! Meet by the roadside car park, Obthorpe Lane, Thurlby.



Sunday 12 May 2.00 – 4.00pm

Looking for Signs of Spring – Bourne Woods

Meet at the Beech Avenue entrance to Bourne Woods.



Sunday 9 June 2.00 – 4.00pm

Looking for animal tracks and signs – Bourne Woods

Meet at the Beech Avenue entrance to the Woods.



Sunday 14 July 2.00 – 4.00pm

Pond dipping – Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve

We will be taking a close look at the creatures lurking under water on the reserve. Meet in the car park.

Our Autumn/Winter dates!

Sunday 11 November - 2.00 - 3.30pm

Wintery things - Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve

We will be taking a close look at some of the trees in winter, and finding out if we can still identify them even without their leaves.

We can also collect some leaves and make pictures out of them.

Meet in the main car park, and please wrap up warmly.


Sunday 9 December - 2.00 - 3.30pm

Den building - Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve

We will see if we can build a den just like this out of wood we can find just laying around.

Meet in Manor Roofing car park (just a little bit south of the level crossing)

Remember to wrap up really well, our shelters will not have central heating!

We plan to have a camp fire, and who knows, perhaps a mince pie or two!

Our Spring and summer dates!

Sunday 15 April - 2.00 - 4.00pm
Birds - Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve
We will be checking up on the bird boxes we made and put up - will birds be using any of them? We will be looking for other birds on the reserve as well – and – we will have a demonstration of how to put rings on the legs of birds, and find out why they do it.

Sunday 13 May - 2.00 - 4.00pm
Signs of Spring - Dole Wood Nature Reserve
The wood will be stuffed full of wildflowers and bird song, so we will be snooping around to see what we can find. Meet by the roadside along Obthorpe Lane, Thurlby.

Sunday 10 June - 2.00 - 4.00pm
Watery Critters - Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve
We will be taking close look at some of the creatures living in one of the lakes, and having a look to see if we can spot any water voles. Meet in the car park.

Sunday 8 July - 2.00 - 4.00pm
Wildflower Walk - Robert’s Field Nature Reserve
Robert’s Field will be at its best in July, with hundreds of orchids and other flowers. We will be having a close look at them, and perhaps trying to count the orchids! Meet at the reserve entrance.

Sunday 12 August - 2.00 - 4.00pm
Mammal Survey - Deeping Lakes Nature Reserve
Using special traps we will see if we can catch and take a close look at mice and voles before we release them. We will also see if we can find signs of other animals, like foxes, deer or otters! Meet in Manor Roofing car park (just a little bit south of the level crossing).
