What are nature stars?

About: An underwater predator and a relative of the Water Scorpion, the Water Stick Insect hides amongst reeds and stems in the water where it waits camoufalged to ambush its prey, including tadpoles and small fish. Adults are about 5cm long, including the long thin 'tail' which is actually used to breathe through.

How to identify: Unmistakeable.

Where: Southern and central Britain.
