What are nature stars?

About: A medium-sized elongated, large-headed, large-eyed fish found in crevices amongst rocks below the low tide line. Grows up to 30cm long. Orangey-brown in colour, sometimes greenish, with several darker bars running down the body. Has two branched, feathery tentacles on the top of the head, one above each eye.

How to identify: The largest British blenny.

Where: Found around south and west coasts.

Fantastic fact: The Tompot is a very inquisitive fish, often approaching scuba divers to have a closer look.
