Nosy fish – keeping watch. The eyes have it!

I'm keeping watch for predators and intruders. You can see from this video that I have unusual eyes and can look in different directions at the same time.

I've spotted something interesting. I'm off!

Are you having a wild summer? I am. I downloaded the My Wild Summer booklet yesterday and had a go at making a smelly cocktail. I put in some wild garlic, a couple of unripe hazelnuts, three oak leaves, a dandelion and a couple of blackberries. Pheww it was stinky! Today I’m going to see if I can make one that actually smells nice and give it to my Mum to use as badger perfume. She really likes the smell of slugs so I think I’ll need to add lots of leaves with slug trails on them. I’m sure she’ll love it.

I’m such a lucky badger because I’ve finally been on a boat trip to watch dolphins and I saw some!

I went on the boat trip yesterday. It was just an ordinary kind of boat I think, not a pirate ship like the one you went on Barnyudes (that sounds awesome). It felt strange to be bobbing up and down on the waves, I’m more used to standing on firm ground so I had to cling on with my claws, but luckily I didn’t feel sea sick.

Once I was out at sea, I kept looking over the side of the boat until eventually I saw them. They were bottlenose dolphins and there were three of them. They swam alongside the boat for ages. It was absolutely amazing! They are fantastic animals and super swimmers. It looked as though they were really enjoying racing along next to me. I think it was the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Have you seen anything amazing this summer? Do let me know.

I’m at the beach on my holiday and I’ve been making a shell collection. I have found all sorts so far including razor clam shells, mussel shells and some which I think are called banded wedge shells (they are my favourite so far). Today I’m going to go rockpooling. I’ve got a bucket and a net. I wonder what creatures I’ll find? Maybe an enormous crab!

Great news! I’m going to the seaside for my holiday again this year. I’ve started packing already. I’m taking my binoculars to spot birds - I’d really like to see some puffins - and I’m taking my bucket for rockpooling and sandcastles. Whilst I’m there I might even get to go on a boat trip to see if I can spot any whales or dolphins. That would be totally awesome! Have you ever seen a whale or a dolphin?

I went out bird watching yesterday and had an amazing day. I took my binoculars so I could get a better look at the birds, and they came in really handy. First I saw a Mistle Thrush sitting right at the top of a tall old ash tree and then I heard a Willow Warbler singing. By using my binoculars I managed to spot it sitting on the branch of an oak tree, almost hidden amongst the leaves.

Best of all, on my way back I saw a Sparrowhawk. It flew right across the path in front of me. It was only a few metres away so I didn’t need any binoculars to spot it! It swooped and dived between the trees so fast that I wondered how it didn’t hit a tree trunk. What a fantastic bird. One of my favourites.
