Nosy fish – keeping watch. The eyes have it!

I'm keeping watch for predators and intruders. You can see from this video that I have unusual eyes and can look in different directions at the same time.

I've spotted something interesting. I'm off!

Wow! How exciting! It has snowed here! This is great news for all you animal trackers out there because there are so many footprints to spot. This morning I have spotted fox, rabbit, deer and bird footprints. I can tell which is which from the different shapes and sizes. I spotted some human footprints too, was that you?

Now I’m going to have a go at building a snow badger.

Cool! I’m going to have a go at making the ‘Christmas bird wreath’ which is a new activity sheet that has just been added to the ‘downloads’ page of the website. It can hang up outside my sett and I’ll be able to sit inside and watch the birds enjoy some festive food. I wonder what species will come along for a snack? I’d really like to see a green woodpecker. Do you think one might visit?

It's been very frosty here this week. I love the frost! I've been out every night trampling about on the crunchy frozen grass. It chills my toes but I love it! I've been listening to the tawny owls calling to each other too. They hoot so much at this time of year! And have you seen the stars? There have been no clouds, just hundreds of twinkling lights in the sky. Amazing! Dark cold nights are great!

Yesterday I’d just settled down to eat a lovely bowl full of slug stew when suddenly I heard some great thundering footsteps outside. It was like an earthquake! I jumped so much that my hot stew was sloshed all down my tummy! Disaster! When I went to see what was happening, there were three deer outside. They were magnificent creatures with shiny brown coats and enormous antlers. I watched them quietly for a few minutes before a sudden gust of wind rattled the trees and off they galloped through the undergrowth again.

Of course, my stew was ruined and I had to make do with worms on toast, but I didn’t mind, because deer are amazing!

I’ve been out playing with the beautiful fallen leaves this week. There are so many amazing colours, I’ve had LOADS of fun! Look what I made! I think it looks a bit like a sunflower. I’m going out again today to make something different, perhaps a rainbow or maybe even a badger!
