Give children the chance to discover creatures living under a stone; to feel the different kinds of bark on trees or to soak up the sounds and scents of a wood and they will quickly enter into the world around them. Shropshire Wildlife Trust arranges numerous holiday and half term events in Shrewsbury and opportunities around the county through Wildlife Watch where children have the chance to explore nature.
The outdoor world is also teeming with subjects that can be explored within the national curriculum. The Trust’s environmental education staff lead hundreds of school trips involving around 4,000 children every year. Sessions are geared to fulfilling a range of learning objectives, while also awakening a sense of wonder in the natural world. The Trust also runs Forest School programmes and five-day expeditions on the Wrekin, Telford, leading to a John Muir award.
