My Nature Diary

Troble with the sea creatures!

We've been to the beach in Wales & found this starfish & clam washed in by the tide. At first I thought someone had been horible & pushed the clamb through the starfish, but then we realised that th hinge of the clamb was intact. So had they both been trying to eat eachother & bitten off more than they could chew? It was really interesting as you could se theinside of the starfish - it looked really like a paper snowflake. Anyone got any ideas?

We also found this HUGE jellyfish washed up by the tide. It was obvously dead - a couple of tenticles had been pulled off by the gulls.

cormorant on the Severn

Today we saw a cormorant right in the town centre! It was on the river & had just dived for fish. It dived again after a couple of minutes & came up in almost the same spot just after the bridge. My frends dad, who is a fisherman, told me that they need to eat 3-4 kgs of fish a day!!! Thats alot of fish. Apparently, there are several breeding pairs on various lakes in the area, which really suprised me as before, I've only seen them on the sea.

Fox!

I saw a fox too(it was at night though)we were in the car on our way to somwhere, and this sort of redy-orange shape ran out of the bushes and across the road into the next bush!

ladybirds

Last week we found loads (about 30) of harlequin ladybird larva on a fence on our playground. We saw one eating a green fly

Badgers

Once on a cub camp a blind badger walked right up to us!
I've also seen badger footprints.
