About: This tall, dark orchid has leaves that spiral around the stem and sticky, drooping flowers. Flowers July to September.
How to identify: Look for broad leaves of a dull green at the base.
Where: Found throughout the UK and Ireland, concentrated most on England and Northern Ireland.
Fantastic fact: Some wasp pollinators have been seen becoming sleepy after lapping nectar from these orchids, sometimes even falling out of the flowers!
