What are nature stars?

About: A common spring-time bee, females are about 1cm long and covered in gingery hairs. Mining Bees nest underground, building a little mound of soil around the mouth of their burrow, like a mini volcano.

How to identify: A common gingery bee that can often be seen visiting their nests in the lawn during the springtime. There are several other species of mining bee, that are difficult to tell apart.

Where: Widespread in England and Wales, rarer in Scotland.
