What are nature stars?

About: A small butterfly, mostly beigey orange above, orange and grey below. Wingspan measures about 3.5 cm. A butterfly of heathland, moorland, grassland and coastal habitats, on the wing throughout the summer in two or three broods, April to October. Caterpillars feed on a variety of grasses.

How to identify: A small, fairly shy, beige and grey butterfly with one eye spot on the front wings. Most likely to be confused with day-flying moths.

Where: Found throughout the country.
