What are nature stars?

About: A large cylindrical beetle, glossy black and covered with small pits and grooves. Larvae burrow in dead wood and old trees. Adults can be found in woodland, parks and along hedgerows during the summer, often resting in the sun on dead tree trunks. About 1.5cm long.

How to identify: Easily recognised by the strange shaped thorax, with a rhino's 'horn'.
