What are nature stars?

About: A medium-sized, fairly broad bodied dragonfly, up to 7cm long. Both sexes are yellowy brown, getting darker towards the tip of the body, with yellow spots along the sides and with two dark spots at the front edge of each wing. On the wing from the end of May to August. A common dragonfly, particularly on heathland and moorland, but also found around ponds, lakes and in woods.

How to identify: The combination of size and shape, with a golden brown body and the dark spots on the wing make the Four-spotted Chaser easily recognisable.

Fantastic fact: Enormous migrating swarms of Four-spotted Chasers have been recorded in Europe, including one that was 500m long, 20m wide and 3m high, containg approximately 2.5 BILLION insects! That's a lot of dragonflies!!
