About: Tree Sparrows are scarce birds of farmland, hedgerows and woodland edges. Male and female both look the same, with chesnut brown crows, white cheeks and a black cheek spot. Tree Sparrows nest in holes in trees. Tree Sparrows have suffered enormous decline
How to identify: Told from male House Sparrows by the rich brown crown and cap and by having white cheeks with a black spot in the middle.
Where: Widespread in England, southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland.
