About: This woodland owl is slightly smaller than a tawny owl. It prefers to hunt in areas of open land where it catches small mammals and the occasional bird. These owls will sometimes roost together during the winter, and some even arrive in the UK from Europe.
How to identify: It's two large ear tufts (which are actually feathers and not ears at all) make this species unmistakeable.
