How to identify: Sandpipers can be a difficult group of birds to get to grips with. When they fly, Green Sandpipers look black above, with a white belly and a white rump. They are most similar to Wood Sandpiper and Common Sandpiper, but are much darker than both.

Where: A winter visitor and passage migrant to inland wetlands throughout Britain.
