What are nature stars?

About: A fairly common dabbling duck found throughout the year, only a little smaller than a Mallard.

How to identify: Males are grey with a black rear end. Both males and females can be told by the white patches on their secondary feathers.

Where: Mainly found in south and eastern England, but can be found anywhere.

Fantastic fact: Gadwall can sometimes be seen following Coot around. After the coot have dived down to pick water weed, the Gadwall will grab some for themselves!
