How to catch minibeasts for a closer look

Make a beating tray, a tumble trap and leaf litter funnel to capture minibeasts for a close up view

 

 

you will need

 

either

 

  • a white sheet & long pole or cane (To make a beating tray)
  • 2 yoghurt pots, bait (small piece of meat or fruit), small stones, large flat stone or tile and a trowel (To make a tumble trap)
  • a cardboard box, large jar, plastic funnel, an angle poise lamp, flat stone (To make a leaf litter funnel)

 

or all of them depending on how many different traps you want to make.  Our activity sheet gives more details.

    Garganir, I'm 8 nearly 9 do you think I could do this??????? I think grow your own food is more interesting, but there we go. Mini beasts aren't my wildlife stronghold so maybe I shouldn't do this. Then again, maybe I should to be a bit better with creepy crawlies...... Whiskolis

    when we visited bokleton for scool we did pond dipping and me and my friend cuaght a water lizerd with a belly that was BRIGHT PINK!
